The Fishers Sesquicentennial Trail launched earlier this month and over the past few weeks, residents of all ages have embarked on a journey to explore Fishers’ historical, cultural, and community highlights as part of the city’s 150th birthday celebration.

With nearly 30 destinations on the trail passport, there’s so much to see and do as you explore. But, did you know that you can also taste what makes Fishers one-of-a-kind as you travel the trail? Snack your way through the Fishers Sesquicentennial Trail with these eats!

Conner Prairie

While Conner Prairie is included as a trail stop for its historical importance, we can’t forget about its selection of sweet treats! Ever since I was little, I loved going to the Conner Prairie store to get some snacks. They have a fantastic selection of old-fashioned candy. My favorites are the rock candies and the candy sticks, but the special Conner Prairie milk chocolate bar is a must-have for all chocolate lovers. One of the best parts about the store is the Indiana Home, where they have delicious snacks, all made in our state!

MashCraft Brewing

The family-friendly MashCraft Brewing Fishers is such a fun place to grab dinner and drinks. This year, MashCraft is helping us celebrate Fishers’ 150th and the Hamilton County Squirrel Stampede by creating specialty burgers and brews. This month it’s the Spicy Squirrel Stampede burger, which features peanut butter, pecan candied bacon, and jalapeños. Cool it off with the specialty brew, The Switch, an American Lager named after Fishers’ original name, Fishers Switch. Make sure to ask your server about the specials that day and don’t forget to get your passport punched during your visit!

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream

What better way to celebrate Fishers’ birthday than with ice cream? The Fishers Sesquicentennial Trail is a perfect excuse to stop by your favorite ice cream shop! While getting your passport hole punched, make sure to try the Fishers Birthday Blast ice cream to celebrate the occasion. Made with the fan-favorite birthday cake ice cream, the Fishers Birthday Blast is a great way to cool down after a day exploring Fishers.

Ohanalulu

A delicious hand-made donut is the perfect way to start the day. Ohanalulu (formerly Ohana Donuts & Ice Cream) has something for everyone with its wide selection of coffees, donuts, ice cream, and more. They even have a custom donut to celebrate Fishers’ birthday, The 150th! Just remember to take a break from your donut to get your passport hole punched before you leave.

Schoolhouse 7 Café

Schoolhouse 7 Café is one of my favorite places to stop for a pick-me-up coffee or a bite to eat. Their caramel macchiato will satisfy both your coffee and sweet-tooth cravings. What makes Schoolhouse 7 so unique is that it is locally run and provides a great homey feeling. One of the best menu items to showcase this is Grandma Jean’s Chocolate Cake, a recipe passed down through the family. This café isn’t just included on the trail for its delicious food though, it’s also full of history! The schoolhouse was originally opened in 1900, and the café displays its history all around. They have even designed a specialty bookmark in honor of Fishers’ birthday that mimics the bookmark given to every student by their teacher in the class of 1901. When you go to get your passport hole punched, you can also get a bookmark for free!

Nickel Plate District Amphitheater

The Nickel Plate District Amphitheater is known for great concerts, but it’s also home to the Fishers Farmers Market, which runs every Saturday from May through September. The award-winning market offers a seemingly endless variety of food, drinks, fresh produce, and more. You can also pick up breakfast when you visit. YAY! Donuts is a must-try, and I love how customizable you can be with your glazes. Another favorite is the Rose and Lois coffee truck which has many of the beloved items from their store, including the popular Pistachio Oat Latte. Click here for a complete list of market vendors!

Nickel Plate Trail

The Nickel Plate Trail connects to so many wonderful restaurants and snack spots throughout Fishers. The newly finished trail through the heart of Fishers’ downtown Nickel Plate Cultural District offers access to many local favorites such as Four Day Ray Brewing, LouVino, Another Broken Egg, Parks Place Pub, Samanos, and more! It also takes you by a few trail stops like the Blazing the Trail mural on the back of the Fishers Police Station parking garage, the Nickel Plate Station Plaza, the Fishers Maker Playground at Hub & Spoke, and the Al Huda Mosque. Check out our blog about Nickel Plate Trail highlights for more inspiration for where to grab a bite!
