Sometimes self-care is changing up the workspace and having a furry companion. I have a pretty cute supervisor, today, while I soak up some sunshine and catch up on some CLE drafting. Meet Bonnie the barn cat (who is currently head butting my phone as I type this.) Lawyers Mutual of KY #BarTheStigma #kentucky #lawyers #lmick

I’m prepping for my training next week at the Kentucky State Police Academy on trauma-informed investigations. We often ask the cadets to look more holistically at their definition of success. For example, instead of limiting success to arrest or conviction, we discuss what happens when we broaden our definition to include victim access to resources, recovery, increased safety, and more. I’ve been leading this training for a decade with Jennifer Johnson Koch and I find myself reflecting on how I define success both in the context of this training and more generally. I am excited for our presentation next week and for what’s to come. How do you define success? #investigations #lawenforcement #training #traumainformed

Yoga is a great way to supplement your well-being practices but we often don’t know where to start. Several years ago, I took a beginner series class Wildfire Yoga and my journey with yoga began. Now I have the opportunity to lead the class and I’m excited to share it, here, on #WellbeingWednesday. If you’re in the Lexington, Kentucky area, I hope you’ll join me; if you are further away but still curious, please reach out! Happy to help you navigate tips for getting started with yoga! Click here for more information about the 4-week series at Wildfire: https://lnkd.in/eV4mM2Je

How’s your morning going? This ridiculously long straw in my smoothie is one example of the things that seem out of whack, today. Another is the fact that I took the picture thinking about a #WellbeingWednesday post when it is, in fact, Thursday. I am like the many #lawyers who struggle with perfection. It is a hazard of the job—meeting client expectations and practicing ethically is a high bar. But perfection is not possible—and often good enough really, truly is good enough. So, I’m going to enjoy my smoothie and put one step in front of the other as I tackle a to-do item that’s been lingering for too long. What is one thing you can do, today, where you can be at peace with “good enough”?

The sun is shining here in Kentucky! On this #wellnesswednesday, how can you incorporate a few moments of sunshine into your afternoon? My days are always better when I pause—even for 10 minutes—to be present with my daughter and husband while we do something fun or silly. I highly recommend leaving some sidewalk chalk by your back door this spring.
